Beothuk, a treat to cruise
Beothuk, a treat to cruise

Vripack has teamed up again with their Canadian client to design the second Beothuk, a 31m Doggersbank Offshore built by Dok- en Scheepsbouw Woudsend and launched spring 2008. Based on the experience gained on previous voyages, technology and efficiency have become the keywords to this impressive and convenient yacht.

This all-in-one Explorer is the first newly built super yacht to be fully equipped with LED lights which can remotely be turned on and off all over the boat. Over 500 lights from top to bottom only use a fraction of the power necessary for conventional halogen bulbs and also prevent major energy waste as they generate far less heat which results in lower use of the air-conditioning. The lights, developed by OceanLED, are also dimmable to create a pleasant atmosphere in the relaxation areas on board.

As the owner aims to maintain the yacht himself, he desired a spacious and seawater cooled engine room and all equipment to be completely accessible. This 4x4m soundproof area, designed by Vripack, is situated in the centre of the yacht beneath the guest cabins and contains various technical equipment of which the watermaker, pumps, sewage treatment plant, compressors, freezers, automatic pumps, two large generators on port and starboard etc.

The Designers at Vripack let stainless steel play a prominent role in the exterior and interior detailing of Beothuk, preventing her to become too classical. From the oval hand rails, to the inlays around the bar up to the towel racks, all accessories perfectly suit the sturdy but elegant design. The interior style is an interesting mix of Madrona veneer and stained cherrywood with impressive carvings. Heated floors, rare marbles and exceptionally comfortable furniture give the finishing touch. Two important owner’s wishes have also been fulfilled: the crew accommodations are as comfortable as the owners’ and the dining room/bar is situated on the fore main deck to create a stunning 270 degree view of the horizon.

When at sea, the split-level wheelhouse and lounge is where the family and friends can gather together. The custom built alarm and monitoring system on the bridge, developed and built by Radio Zeeland DMP, includes touch screens with custom software for the operation and monitoring of all onboard functions. Suitable for colder and wetter climates, the main deck lounge can be extended by closing off the outside area aft. A spacious sundeck spa pool is the place to be when sailing in tropical areas.

Beothuk proves that excellent Dutch craftsmanship and cutting edge integrated technologies combine perfectly in only 31 meter. For those who don’t believe us, she is exhibited at the 2008 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show at Face Dock #13. You are welcome to join us on board!
